Welcome to SDHRA!
South Dakota Hunting Rights Advocacy (SDHRA)
was founded by a group of outdoor
enthusiasts who
strongly
believe that hunting is a sacred, inalienable right; a basic tenet of
our existence that teaches the intelligence, beauty and power of
nature, while engendering respect for all life, responsibility to
society, social authority, and spiritual power.
In concert with that belief, SDHRA, organized in late 2007, is actively engaged in legislative, administrative, and limited legal advocacy to protect and enhance the rights of South Dakota residents to lawfully hunt on publicly and privately owned land within the state.
During the legislative session, SDHRA carefully monitors all activity that may impact hunting in the state. Legislation that affects the hunting rights of South Dakota residents is squarely address by volunteers lobby and testify to either advocate the defeat of restrictive legislation, or encourage passage of initiatives that positively affect the hunting rights of South Dakota residents.
Throughout the year, SDHRA monitors State and Federal initiatives both on an administrative and legislative level, interceding when necessary to advocate and negotiate in the interest of South Dakota hunters.
In addition to tracking the pulse of State and Federal agencies, SDHRA engages in a variety of initiatives to enhance the ability of South Dakota families to enjoy hunting for both food and recreation.
Leadership is presently provided by our current President, Dr. Lennard Hopper, of Spearfish (pictured above). Lennard was one of the initial founders and spent countless hours during the last legislative session in preparation for the youth hunting initiative that successfully passed and was signed by the Governor.
South Dakota Hunting Rights Advocacy is a registered South Dakota nonprofit corporation, and relies upon the kindness of South Dakota hunters to fund its efforts. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
